THIS is an historical moment in time, captured by every major media meanderer with a camera that day. I often go to look at this video of Bush getting the shoes tossed at him.

Everyone knows, I assume, that exposing the bottom of a shoe or a foot to someone is a great insult in Arab custom. I'm not sure if it' equal to "the finger" or more, or less severe.

But it was more than just an insult from one journalist... people rallied around his protest, and he was hailed more or less as a hero throughout the Arab world (one side of it). He was IN Iraq, on a surprise visit. People do not seem to like this man. Did you notice that this distinctly Arab custom was easily understood by the entire rest of the world, and that its most indelible effect was that everyone in the ENTIRE WORLD laughed at our beleaguered Commander-in-Chief. In my personal opinion, Bush gets TWO FEET UP. I am assuming that would be about the equivalent of two over-emphasized manual gestures involving two digits. (Insult math is as hard as any kind of math.)

The entire incident captured the world's attention on outlet after outlet. It was "news", then, like all other "news"... it faded into gray-glory and the past. So I will be giving you that link here and there to keep you reminded of that poignant moment in our nation's history.

Do you remember way back when former President Bush choked on a pretzel, and all the world sort of laughed at that, but you know, it really isn't that funny, someone choking... but it's just another example of the highjinx of a rather goofy "world-leader".
